This is really a fun subject for me because I do not think that people pay enough attention to their thoughts….at all! Hence, my life’s work of trying to explain to everyone that your thoughts do become reality and to pay more attention to what you think about on a day to day basis. Anyhow, my family and I live our life thinking backwards in a sense. When something good or bad happens to someone our first response is always, “What have you been thinking about???” Then comes the fess up of whatever it may be.
Usually I will share stories that happen to me, or my family, so that people can understand better what I mean when I talk about this subject. That just makes it easier for you to relate it to your own life. So here is a funny story of what happened to us recently.
My family and I fly a couple of times a year, back to the mainland. As you can imagine, if you fly at all, that six hour flight across the ocean can be uncomfortable since it is a long time span and sleeping can sometimes be next to impossible. Well, anyway, the kids and me had decided over the last year, that we would like to fly first class sometime since we have never flown first class before. Plus, it really makes you want to try it when you pass through the first class cabin on your way back to those tiny little chairs that my youngest son always reminds me are not made for people that are 6’ tall! As you pass by those big comfortable chairs, which are obviously a marketing teaser, it makes you want to figure out how to sit there. So we went through some of our options. There is the obvious option of just purchasing first class tickets, which is definitely not an option for us since there are five of us total (not worth the extra $3000). Then there is upgrading, which you cannot do unless you pay for a class T ticket or higher (or something like that, I can’t remember the letter exactly, but we hadn’t done that cause I checked). Lastly there is an upgrade at the gate, if there are seats still available, for $200 a seat if you are flying to or from Hawaii.

Since we have wanted to try this for awhile we thought, well, let’s just save the extra money and upgrade at the gate if there are extra seats available. Now in the back of my mind I kept thinking….”Wouldn’t it be nice if we could fly first class and not have to pay $200 extra a seat?” Because ultimately over the last year I have been imagining that we get upgraded for no extra cost, but since that had not happened yet I had resorted to the idea of paying extra for the big comfy seats.
So on our first flight over to the mainland, there were no extra seats available in first class and we flew in our originally assigned seats. Most of us sat in the middle rows of the airplane, which are the most uncomfortable seats you can get. Except for my son who had a window seat. He was asked, however, to change seats with a woman who was flying with her baby, so that she would not have to get up during the flight if he needed out.
On our return flight, however, we were delayed because of weather. When I checked in with the front desk to see if we were going to miss our connection, they said yes there was no way to make the flight on time. Great! Since we booked a later flight out of our departure city this was definitely not good news, because most flights to Hawaii from the mainland stop about 7pm and resume the next morning. So our attendants tried for about a half hour to find 5 seats available on the same flight since many other people had been delayed as well. After quite sometime our attendant said, “Here is what we are going to do. We are going to book you through LA, but nothing leaves there until 8:50am tomorrow so you will have to spend the night there. However, there is no more room in coach so I am going to upgrade you all to first class tickets.”
“Oh...jeez, well, I guess that makes it a little better,” I thought to myself, “Then my next thoughts immediately went to, I wasn’t very specific with the first class seats in my Universal thought process. Note to self, be more specific with the Universe!” Then I went to tell my family that we were rerouted, finally, and that we were indeed going to be flying first class, with no extra charge, at the expense of staying overnight in LA. My husband said, "First class?" Then he made a slight frown and said to me, "Uh huh! Now I know why this happened!!” I said, “Honey I cannot change the weather in San Francisco! This is not entirely our fault!” Knowing inside that it was a little bit our fault and also knowing that the Universe is powerful beyond belief!
He smiled and said, “Sure it isn’t.”
